What's in the Excel file
- Signal list: every signal with pin, type, direction, range, fault injection and notes.
- I/O plan: channels needed per HIL I/O type, with spares, and fault-injection channels.
- Bench checklist: the usual items to plan beyond the I/O, from power and wiring to restbus and test automation.

Questions
Why start a HIL bench with the signal list?
The signal list decides the I/O cards, load boards, fault-injection units and wiring harness. Ordering hardware before it is complete is the most common cause of costly rework.
What is fault injection?
Switching a signal to open circuit, short to ground or short to battery on purpose, to test that the ECU detects the fault and sets the right DTC.
How many spare channels should we plan?
Around 20% is a common rule, because new requirements and ECU variants almost always add signals during the project.
Planning a HIL test bench?
Dervo engineers plan, build and automate HIL benches, from the signal list and wiring to test scripts and regression runs.
