Everything you type stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to us.

How it's calculated

  • Employee PF: 12% of the PF wage.
  • Employer: 12% of the PF wage, of which 8.33% (on wage up to ₹15,000, so at most ₹1,250) goes to the pension scheme (EPS) and the rest to EPF. On top, EDLI insurance at 0.5% (on up to ₹15,000) and EPF admin charges at 0.5% (minimum ₹500 a month per establishment).
  • ESI applies when gross pay is ₹21,000 a month or less: 0.75% from the employee and 3.25% from the employer.
  • Labour codes rule: if allowances are more than half of pay, the extra counts as wages. Tick the box to apply it, and confirm with your CA how your PF office applies it.

Questions

Is PF calculated on full basic or ₹15,000?

By law, PF is compulsory on wages up to ₹15,000 a month, so most employers deduct 12% of ₹15,000 (₹1,800) when basic is higher. Employers and employees can choose to contribute on the full basic instead.

Who is covered by ESI?

Employees earning ₹21,000 a month or less in gross pay (₹25,000 for persons with disability), at businesses covered by ESI. The employee pays 0.75% and the employer 3.25%.

Where does the employer's 12% go?

8.33% of wage up to ₹15,000 (at most ₹1,250 a month) goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme, and the rest to the employee's PF account. EDLI and admin charges are paid on top.
