How to keep embedded C code clean from the start.
Good practice
- Turn analysis on from day one, because cleaning up a large codebase later is much harder.
- Agree on a rule set and on how deviations are documented and approved.
- Fail the build on new violations, and track old ones separately with a plan to reduce them.
- Discuss findings in code review instead of silencing warnings.
- Combine static analysis with unit tests and coverage for stronger confidence.
- Keep tool versions and configurations under version control.
